 Favoritism and Nepotism in Bollywood

The nepotism debate has been reignited after the demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Even though there is no official statement by authorities for the reason behind his suicide, many celebrities have now concluded that his death was connected to nepotism in Bollywood.

Kangana speaks out on Nepotism in Bollywood

Kangana Ranaut recently appeared on a channel where she had spoken about the culture of favoritism and nepotism in Bollywood and how it resulted in the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. The conversation around nepotism had been first highlighted by Ranaut on Karan Johar’s chat show Koffee with Karan in 2017. Kangana had called Karan the ‘flag-bearer of nepotism’.

In the recent interview of Kangana Ranaut, she called Swara Bhaskar and Taapsee Pannu “B Grade actresses” and “needy outsiders.” Tapsee made this reply to Kangana:

“Maine suna class 12th n 10th ke result ke baad humaara result bhi aa gaya hai! Humaara grade system ab official hai ? Abhi tak toh number system pe value decide hoti thi na”.

Swara also made a sarcastic reply to Kangana’s statement. She tweeted:

“ -Needy outsider
– B grade actress
(But) – better looking & better actor than Alia Bhatt & Ananya!”
Net net I think this was a compliment!
Thanks Kangana! I think u are gorgeous, generous & a great actor ! Shine on”

Simi Grewal also applauded the frank attitude of Kangana in the interview. She tweeted, “I applaud Kangana Ranaut who is braver & bolder than I am. Only I know how a ‘powerful’ person has viciously tried to destroy my career. I stayed silent. Because I am not so brave.”

The way forward for Bollywood

Many media outlets have reported that Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar have now lost followers on Twitter since the death of Sushant. Moreover, Karan Johar has also stopped following eight people from the industry. No one knows why Johar did this or if it is just a technical glitch or an unintentional move.

We do expect that this controversy will pass by once the shock created by demise of Sushant Singh Rajput is passed and nepotism will continue its work. There is also a possibility that Karan Johar will be making more films with the likes of Alia Bhatt, Tiger Shroff, Ananya Pandey and many other star kids. It is important to remember that the onus to remove nepotism is not on them. It is mainly on the audience. Nepotism will continue if people will continue to watch movies of star kids.
