As a result of a series of deepfake videos, actor Alia Bhatt has become the latest celebrity to fall victim to the technology.
An earlier deepfake of Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, Katrina Kaif, and Sara Tendulkar had surfaced on the internet, raising concerns about the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI). There is a video showing a woman with the morphed face of Alia Bhatt making obscene gestures.
In response to these videos, public figures have been targeted by fake videos and AI can now create deepfakes that can mislead people.
It has been announced that the creation and circulation of deepfakes carries a strong penalty of 1 lakh in fines and three years in prison.

The Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said last week that the Centre would soon appoint an officer to take appropriate action against such content. It is clear from the regulations and laws that Deepfake will be dealt with under the current laws.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) will develop a website where users can report IT rule violations. The Union Minister said Meity would assist users in reporting violations of IT rules and assisting them in filing a First Information Report.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously raised the issue of deepfake movies created through the misuse of AI earlier this month, labelling it as a “big concern.”
“During the times of Artificial Intelligence, it is important that technology should be used responsibly,” warned him.
