Alia Bhatt Breaks Down In Tears Over Her Sister’s Battle With Depression!

Alia Bhatt turned out to be a great sister to Shaheen Bhatt after she broke down speaking about her sister’s battle with depression; at We The Women event, put together by Barkha Dutt in Mumbai on Sunday. Alia felt guilty of not having done enough to help her sister through the tough times. This gesture of pure love and empathy for her sister touched the hearts of many since mental health to date is something not well understood by many.

Often times the person suffering from depression does not realize it themselves. The slow death of the inner-self takes a toll on them with nowhere to go and no proper explanation to give to their loved ones. More importantly, family and friends often fail to understand the sufferings of a depressed person, until it is too late.
Shaheen Bhatt was no different and beautifully penned down her journey in her book called, I’ve never been (Un)happier. However, that book is what opened a window for Alia into her sister’s heart and mind. Moreover, Alia while speaking about Shaheen’s battle with depression, said that despite living with Shaheen all these years, she only got to know of her illness after reading her book. In addition, Alia said, “I felt terrible as a sister. I didn’t put myself out there enough to understand her.”
Alia speaking about her talented sister, added, “I have only believed that she is the most brilliant person in my family. To some extent, she has never believed that about her own self but that always broke my heart. I was sensitive but I feel guilty for not understanding as much as I should have.”
Alia didn’t leave any stone unturned in showing support for her sister’s first book release.
She thanked Bharka for providing a great platform where she could celebrate her brave and talented sister.
This isn’t the only time five years younger Alia sang the praises for Shaheen. Recently, wishing Shaheen on her birthday, Alia paid a heartwarming tribute to her elder sister. Clearly, the bond these sisters share is strong and wholesome.
Moreover, Bollywood’s big names and close friends of Alia’s also congratulated Shaheen. However, Arjun Kapoor’s message definitely aced the rest. In his Instagram story, he wrote, “@shaheenb thank you for your kind words. It truly makes me happy and proud knowing you have turned something everyone thought was a weakness into ur biggest strength & dared to share when most would shy away thinking what the world would think & say…big love and all the best with everything “
