Aamir Khan Announces Retirement from Bollywood
Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, who has shaped Indian cinema for over three decades, recently shared that he came close to leaving his career, but his family’s advice made him reconsider.
In a joint interview with his ex-wife, filmmaker Kiran Rao, Khan spoke about his reasons for almost stepping back from the industry. “Before Laal Singh Chadha, I decided I was going to quit. I was going through something personal,” he admitted.
Re-Evaluating Life After COVID
Reflecting on his life post-pandemic, Khan explained how the break had changed his perspective. “Since I was 18, I’ve poured all my time and focus into cinema. And in that process, I realized I hadn’t been as present as I should have been for my kids, my family, even for Kiran and Reena,” he said. “I felt a lot of guilt about not being there for the people who mean the most to me. And I thought, after 35 years of films, maybe it’s time to put them first.”
After Covid, Aamir Khan also announced the ending of his 15 years of marriage with Kiran Rao.

Family’s Advice on Balance
Khan recalled the moment he shared his decision with his family. “I sat everyone down and told them I wanted to quit movies to spend more time together. I wasn’t doing this because of any issue with films—I was doing it for them.”
However, his older children, Junaid and Ira, had other thoughts. “Junaid told me, ‘Why do you have to go from one extreme to another? You can find a balance,’” Khan said, adding that their words helped him see a middle path he hadn’t considered before. “So, I changed my mind and returned to the industry, but it was a personal decision nobody knew about.”
